The Nextar 3xi sounded like a great deal from reading the reviews. I wasn't at all pleased, though. It has a very cheap, tinny sounding voice. It is easy to program, but it doesn't seem to know where it is going!! In three out of three tries to program a known destination, the GPS sent me a totally bogus way. In one case, though it accepted the address, it was still telling me to make a U turn when I had arrived at the destination. It is extremely stubborn! Only after many, many miles taking the known best route, did the GPS recalculate and stop demanding that I turn around.
I'm afraid this purchase was a terribly disappointing, non-refundable mistake. Was this review helpful?

Will not buy this one if I had compared more models. Pros: cheap price. That is all and you get what you paid for. Cons: very slow acquiring GPS signals every time it starts. The first time it took nearly one hour, then all the rest times, it will take any where from 5 to 30 min to acquire signal and get it working. That was very annoying when you are on the go with a car in a new place. Worked pretty spotty in areas with lots of high rises, such as downtown Philadelphia and New York city. Often times, it will loss connection to the satellite and need some time to get reconnected. Zoom out/in responses are very slow. Street name labeling is very limited and not enough for clear direction. No text to speech voicing. I bought this one in a hurry for my trip to Philadelphia and New York city. I should have doing more comparison to different GPS and paid a bit more for a better brand. Was this review helpful?

I usually use Delorme gps with my laptop, so I need to adjust to the necessary loss of functionality of a small unit like this.
Pros: Small, easy to use, accurate, quick acquisition of satellites.
Cons: The big one is NO UPDATES for the maps. A request to Nextar for information brought news that I could exchange the whole unit for a new one with updated maps, for a mere $140. This is very bad business practice, and almost amounts to bait and switch. Also, battery life is less than one hour. There are no shopping POIs. Voice cannot pronounce street names.
I'll give it a few more days, but I am considering returning it for a model made by a company with better customer service. Was this review helpful?

This GPS receiver is good for most daily commuting. It pickups GPS signals within 10s and is very simple to use. It comes with the windshield/dashboard mount, a USP cord, a 1GB SD card, a cigarette/car adaptor, and a 120-240V adaptor. Also, it has a built in rechargable battery. The only drawback is that it doesn't speak the names of street roads. It only speaks the names of interstate freeways. It tells you when to turn and also warns you when you drive over the speed limits. Evermore, it re-routes very quick when you miss a turn. It also plays MP3. I find it user friendly and like it a lot. It'd be nice if the screen were a little bit bigger; 3.5" screen size is not good enough. Oh well, for less than $100, what else do you want more. 4 of 5 Pretty good GPS Tuesday, June 17, 2008 A Customer from Glendale, CA
My first GPS unit. Very easy to use, intuitive interface, i was on route within minutes after opening the box.
Didn't test the MP3 and photo functions, but i think this is a very good unit for the value.
Pro: map and direction were precise (so far), although it tend to prefer to route highway over local route. Screen is pan-able like google map, good feature for area overview.
Con: battery life is a bit short. Screen is not anti-glare. Some maps and POI are a bit old.
Overall it's a solid product at a reasonable price, great value! Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Nextar GPS Sunday, June 15, 2008 spoiled1 from Polo Il
Battery sucks - just doesn't last. Can't use MP3 due to battery doesn't last.
Only wants to use interstate roads.
Mileage accurate.

5 of 5 Worked perfectly Thursday, June 12, 2008 Ernie Sprout from Trivoli, IL
I just got back from a 500 mile round trip to a destination that I was very familiar with. I decided to take the gps along just to see how much different it's route would be from the way I usually go. EXACTLY the same. Even took me down the back roads I use to get to the highway. I even got off the path a couple of times to see what it would do. Told me where to turn around and how to get back on my route. Easy to use interface. Voice is loud and clear. Comes with tons of accessories. Can't beat the price. All of the features works flawlessly. I couldn't find a single thing to complain about. Highly recommend this unit to anyone. In fact, I'm gonna order one for my wife. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 couldnt find me a gas station in new york city Monday, June 09, 2008 A Customer from brooklyn, ny
yesterday my tank was on empty , when it navigated me to 2 gas stations that werent there and one gas station that was long closed. Drove for 30 minutes in the city, almost ran out of gas.
Points of interest need a major update as far as gas stations.
Sends you through toll bridges and tunnels in NYC also, even when you turn off toll roads, which on average are 5-8 dollars here. Sometimes calculates the strangest route which seems to be twice as long. Otherwise a good unit, those points a major flaw, but love to be able to just drag the map and point the finger where i want to go to, instead of entering addresses. Also, if you need get on a highway or a bridge, scroll the map, and hold your finger on the highway or bridge and it show you how to get on it Was this review helpful?

bought the product for my future daughter in law and it has more features on it than the one my wife and myself use. she loves the ease of use and the mp3 player option and of course the pink faceplate.. would recommend this for the person just looking for a gps system or someone that already has one.. Ok, but I wish I had gotten a larger one.
Zoom doesn't go in the order shown on screen.
3d --*2 and #3 Display has bars at top when returning from panning state.
Low volume
These tend to want to use Interstates even when there is a better route.
