Finally got around to purchasing a Q1. It's a very good little box for websurfing and simple computer tasks. It's freed me up to move my websurfing away from the main computer. I have a Vista machine, have upgraded the RAM to 2gb and purchased an extended battery. I would recommend the battery but not really the memory upgrade. Vista takes quite a bit of tweaking to get right on such a slow cpu, but after stopping quite a few services and changing quite a few other settings, I've got a box that works for me. I have had my Q1 Ultra for about a month and it has been a spetacular success for what I needed. I was planning a trip to Europe and needed to carry my database and research files. I also wanted to be able to check my e-mail when wifi or a hard wire internet connection was available. I got the cheaper Q1, with the 40 gig hard drive. I would have preferred one with XP but this was only available on the more expensive models with many bells and whistles that I don't need, like blue tooth and a camera.
Using the tiny keys took some getting used to. The standard layout helped and I found that I could type with the sides of my fingers. The mouse works well and I alternate between it and the stylus depending on the circumstance. Battery life is not that long with the standard battery but I never had it on long enough to test this. Putting it in sleep mode avoids running down the battery and the long boot up process with Vista. This was my first experience with Vista and I have found it not so different from XP as to create problems, except for the long bootup and the fact that I had to buy a new version of my database program for compatibility.
At a pound and a half, this is truly a unique and usefull product for travelers. Was this review helpful?

this device is well built - well designed and does the job well - you just have to understand that it's not meant to play games or edit pcitures. This model does not have cameras, bluetooth or the fingerprint reader. What surprised me was that there is no SD slot reader either.. cheap of samunsg not to have included one - this device needs one bad but thank god usb flash drives are cheap.
i use it with a sprint u720 usb modem with included GPS receiver as well as the Samsung mini usb keyboard (worth buying) - i watch videos with it too (vlc player with vob files) - no problems.
eventually i plan on upgrading to 2 GB ram when the warranty is up - see utube for details. Was this review helpful?
